Spot a nail fungus
Onychomycosis, more commonly called nail fungus, is caused by a fungus. This fungal infection is very characteristic and is manifested by:
- A discoloration of the nail plate, which turns white, takes on a yellowish or slightly brown hue;
- Thickening of the nail;
- A lifting of the nail;
- A slight modification of its shape;
- A fragility: the nails are more brittle.
The person who presents a mycosis on a nail can feel a very localized pain. If nail fungus is not treated, the damage can be significant. Treatment is often based on an antifungal treatment. It is also best to avoid damp places, such as swimming pools, and to dry your hands well after washing.
How to know if you have an ingrown nail?
The other most common nail disease is ingrown toenails. The feet are most commonly affected, especially the big toe. Part of the nail pushes into the skin, creating the ingrown nail, which can be identified by several signs:
- Beading on the lateral edge of the nail;
- Redness and pain where the nail penetrates the flesh.
What makes it terrible is, in the absence of appropriate treatment, an infection located under the skin. Advise your client to go to their doctor or podiatrist. While waiting for his medical appointment, you can tell him to gently disinfect the area. It is also possible to make a foot and hand bath with an antiseptic solution.
